About the Client

In June 2000, the scientific community celebrated the 100th anniversary of Moses Gomberg's seminal discoveries and publications on triphenylmethyl with "Gomberg 2000: A Century of Organic Free Radical Chemistry". The conference featured all aspects of organic radicals, mechanism and theory, synthesis, free radicals in biology, and polymers." The meeting was organized by the International Society for Organic Free Radicals (ISOFR) and took place on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor, June 25 - 29, 2000. Prior to this web site, the conference was presented as a loose collection of pages without any consistent design.

Design Overview

In designing a clean, professional looking site (select from thumbnails on right), we stuck with a few colors and small images for the headings (all using only Photoshop and BBEdit). An interesting point in the design process was the rapid pace of developing an online presence. The entire web site was put together from scratch within less than three days! After this fast start, operation was turned over to the conference webmasters, who were scrambling to add late-breaking news to keep the site fresh and up-to-date. Here, I trained a novice over the phone in the basics of changing html code (How much easier would it have been with Dreamweaver!).
